Grandparents Day is approaching soon; oh, you've never heard of Grandparent's Day? President Jimmy Carter initiated a special holiday honoring grandparents in 1978 after Mrs. Marian McQuaid petitioned for one. Mrs. McQuaid's idea stemmed from her concern for the many lonely and shutin elderly in senior care facilities and nursing homes. Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day (which the first Monday in September). In 2012, Grandparents Day will fall on Sunday, September 9.
